Common
Questions
If I sign up for QuickBooks for the Web, will I get a lot
of unsolicited email?
You can always opt not to receive any unsolicited email. We may
use your contact information to alert you about research studies,
upgrades, and other special Intuit offers. If you authorize it,
we may occasionally share limited contact information with selected
third parties, such as companies offering training services for
our products, financial institutions, and selected online service
providers, so that they may provide you with information about
special offers we believe may be of interest to you.
How do I know my data won't be lost if the QuickBooks for
the Web servers crash?
We back up your information regularly and move the backups to
a remote location, which helps protect your data even if there's
a fire or natural disaster. Also, our servers are hooked up to
backup generators to protect against power failures.
Is my QuickBooks for the Web data safe from hackers?
We've taken several measures to make sure that your information
is protected. First of all, each company's data is password-protected.
You create your own passwords, so no one not even an Intuit
employee can see your password unless you authorize it.
Each company's information is stored in its own firewalled partition,
so there's no danger of another customer seeing your information.
As your data travels over the Internet, it is protected by a technology
called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). SSL encrypts your information
as it travels to protect it in transit. It also ensures that your
data has gotten to the QuickBooks for the Web server before it
can be decoded. For added security, make sure your browser supports
128-bit encryption.
What is 128-bit encryption, and how do I get it?
128-bit encryption is the most secure level of encryption available.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows
98 SE, and Windows NT 4.0 already include 128-bit encryption,
so you don't need to do anything else if you already have Internet
Explorer 5.5 for those operating systems. If you have Windows
2000, you'll need to download the Windows 2000 High Encryption
Pack to get 128-bit encryption, even if you have Internet Explorer
5.5 for Windows 2000. If you're running an earlier version of
Internet Explorer for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, or
Windows NT 4.0, then you can either upgrade to Internet Explorer
5.5 or download the Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack for
Internet Explorer 5.0 and above. To find out which version of
Internet Explorer you have, go to the Help menu and chose About
Internet Explorer.
